Hounslow is covered by two School Sport Partnerships:
FELTHAM SSP and ISLEWORTH & SYON SSP
The SSPs are currently in negotiations with schools to develop a programme for 2011 - 2013 in line with the current government aspirations but more importantly with the requirements of schools.
The SSPs are now working across 4 key areas;
Health and Well-being. With qualified physical activity and public health staff the SSP will be offering assistance to schools to develop health and well being programmes for their students. Linked into Healthy Schools Status, NCMP, School Travel Plans, PSHE and Physical Education. Feltham SSP is currently commissioned by Premier Rugby to deliver the MEND 7-13 programme and further commissioning work is expected.
Leadership: After leading the way with our programmes we are continuing our leadership programmes and academies through the school network. Our programmes have shown increased confidence and self esteem in students as well as developing effective communication skills. Improvements have also been made in maths and english partly due to session planning and reporting.
Physical Education: Development of a high quality CPD programme linked into Create Development - FUNS programme. The focus on early years development will be a priority for 2011-2013 as global research, as well as our own, has shown that students who have not acquired physical literacy by age 8 begin to drop out of physical education. This then leads to them being inactive young people and adults as they do not have the confidence to participate in an activity. We will continue to work on our award winning playground markings project due to of the improvements that our independent research highlighted: Increased physical activity; self esteem; confidence; physical literacy and pro social behaviour.
School Sport: Continued support for OSHL activities, including quality assurance of coaches and external providers.
