Last month eleven students from Isleworth & Syon School, The Green School, Gunnersbury Catholic School and the Brentford School for Girls completed the United Kingdom Athletics Level 1 Officiating Course.
Kelly-Anne, Yazad, Frankie, Mustafa, Harry, Thomas, Aaron, Charlotte, Farooq, Omar and Sandeep learnt about how to be a successful:
The sports students also developed their organisation skills, communication and team work when officiating at and running athletics competitions.
To be a licensed Level 1 Official the students have to officiate at two competitions following the course which Tom from Isleworth & Syon School has already achieved.
Ten of the young officials applied for a bursary to pay for the course from Official Sports London (www.officialsportslondon.org) which have all been successful! It is a great bursary to receive and all ten with now receive 80% of all costs incurred with training to be an official and completing 15 hours of volunteering. The bursary contributes towards the cost of the course, travel costs, equipment and clothing (plus some extras if required).
The Level 1 Officials will now help at a range of athletics events which have included, and will in the future:
Super8 Competitions
QuadKids
Street Athletics
Borough Championships
