On Wednesday 24th March 2010, over 500 children (Key stage 2/ Years 3 and 4) from across 49 primary schools in Hounslow participated in the ‘Hounslow Schools Sports Day’, held at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre between 10am and 2pm.
The schools participated in a range of indoor relay races incorporating various skills from across a wide selection of sports including basketball, hockey, rugby, and athletics. Congratulations to St Michael and St Martins who were crowned the overall event winners, followed closely by second place St Marys Isleworth and in third place, Stand. Congratulations to Orchard Primary School, who received the Fair-play award for their exceptional behaviour and sporting conduct at the event.
"This was the best sports day since we started them in 2006. Every team member was an ambassador for their school with excellent attitudes and sportsmanship being demonstrated at all times. Importantly the standard of performance was also extremely high - testament to the collaborative work between our School Sport Partnerships and our primary schools in raising the standards of PE and sport".
Pete Lammas, P.E advisor for Hounslow/SSCo Heston Cluster.
In addition to the indoor relays, the schools were also engaged in a Sport Relief Aerobics fundraiser of which all pupils had been working hard to raise sponsorship leading up to the event. Well done to all staff and students who successfully completed the 20 minute aerobic activity, raising a fantastic amount of £4000 for Sport Relief!
