A team of Year 8 girls from Gumley House represented West London at the Sportshall Athletics London Final on Wednesday 24th March. Earlier this year the team won the Borough of Hounslow and then West London Final to qualify for big London Final where they competed against teams from North, East, South and Central London.
The standard of competition was extremely high and the girls finished 5th out of the five teams. This is the first time a team from Hounslow has ever qualified for the London Final and so to reach the competition held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is fantastic.
The team was made up of captain Niamh O’Donogue, Middlesex cross country athlete Rebecca Killip, Olivia Anderson-Davies, Leah Shevlin, Ellie Godwin, Georgina Grant, Amelia Christopher and Natasha Mleczko.
The competition attracted some high profile names in the sport and the girls met triple jumper Larry Achike who most recently finished 7th at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and is a former Commonwealth Games champion, 400m athlete and Great Britain Olympian Tim Benjamin and current GB cross country athlete Mike Skinner.
The girls travelled with a very proud Mr Killick, their School Sport Coordinator who trained the Gumley Sportshall Athletics teams.
Well done to the team - the 5th best Year 8 girls team in the whole of London!
