Student Review: Community Sport Leader

Ten Year 12 Community Sport Leaders from Isleworth & Syon demonstrated their leadership skills by teaching Cricket to Year 5 at St. Mary’s RC School, Isleworth.  Thereafter, selected Community Sport leaders will then go onto prepare and coach the team for their cluster event in May.

 Community Sport Leaders

By Aaron Openshaw (Yr 12)

For the four weeks leading up to half term, Mr Hart’s Community Sport Leaders’ group taught Year 5 Cricket at St. Mary’s RC Primary in Isleworth.  During the first week we focused on throwing and catching but since they could already throw quite well this wasn’t much of a problem. The second week we focused on fielding techniques. We taught them the long barrier, short barrier and running pick up. The next week was centred on batting. This was more of a challenge as the kids just wanted to hit the ball as far as they could and trying to get them to hit it as low as they could was a struggle. On the last week, we just focused on getting them to put everything they were taught into matches.  Many of the Year 5 students hit the ball really far and scored a number of runs.  Even some of the Sport leaders joined in batting but were caught or bowled out quickly. Overall I think most of the people involved had fun and enjoyed themselves.
