Since starting in November 2009, with the support of Sport Unlimited Funding the Kids Kung Fu Club at Lampton Sports Centre has come to the end of its 10 week introduction.
Sessions were held at Lampton Sports Centre on Saturday mornings from 10-11am for years 1-3 and 11am-12noon for years 4 and upwards. The sessions were offered to all children in Hounslow regardless of their previous experience in Martial Arts. A total of 28 boys and girls from school years 1-7 in Hounslow were engaged in the club. The sessions were delivered by Biaw Yian Martial Arts, who provided fully trained instructors lead by Linda Hall, a British Champion, twice gold medallist with over a decade of experience in teaching and training in all areas of martial arts, health and wellbeing.
The sessions provided an excellent way for children to learn the non – contact styles of Opera House Kung Fu, freestyle and tai chi along with exercise to music. The instructors provided sessions which allowed the participants to engage in a fun but disciplined environment where they were taught self defence techniques, boosting levels of confidence, self belief, stamina and strength.
In the final session at Lampton, participants were involved in a celebratory display of their skills and development, performing in tiger masks in time with the Chinese New Year: the year of the tiger.
But the fun doesn’t stop there!
Biaw Yian Martial Arts are pleased to offer a further 10 sessions of Kid’s Kung Fu at an alternative venue; The Pope John Centre, Eton Avenue, in Heston TW5 0HB, from Saturday 27th February.
Classes will take place on Saturdays from 10am-11am for Key stage 1 students, and 11am-12noon for key stage 2 students. The first session will start on Saturday 27th February for 5 weeks until 27th March and will then resume on Saturday 24th April until Saturday 22nd May 2010.
