On Monday 12th October, 142 children from Hounslow primary schools descended on Grasshoppers Rugby Club for an afternoon of fun and high quality coaching. Every child benefited from sessions in rugby, hockey, netball and football delivered by local community coaches, club representatives, School Sport Co-ordinators and supported by Young Leaders from Isleworth and Syon School for Boys.
Each session covered a range of activities to practice the basic skills required for the particular sport. This allows for each child’s general motor abilities to be transferred into sport specific skills in a friendly, enjoyable environment so that they and their teachers may realise their potential within that sport. This experience not only provides children with the opportunity to practice a range of activities but it also signposts the local clubs for those who may wish to develop their skills further.
The festival is for boys and girls from years 3 and 4 in order to provide them with the chance of non-competitive training in sport before they start competing regularly in year 5. Please find a list of the schools that were present below.
