Grove Park, Chiswick were crowned Borough champions in the Year 3/4 Mini Tennis Red finals on Tuesday 12th June. They now go onto represent Hounslow at the mini school games on 28th June at Crystal Palace competing against the other 31 boroughs in London. Grove Park will look to emulate the success of St. Mary’s Chiswick who won this event last year.
Twenty-four students from six primary schools across Hounslow qualified for the finals held at Thistleworth Tennis Club, Osterley. The competition was organised by ‘Sport Impact’ (Isleworth & Syon and Feltham School Sport Partnerships) and John Love (Middlesex Development Officer) In addition, Isleworth & Syon Sport leaders supported the event by umpiring the games.
Each school qualified for the finals by competing in one of the three preliminary competitions held at Osterley, Chiswick and Feltham in May
Each team played each other in a round robin format in timed games lasting 10 minutes each with four single games taking place per match. A team consisted of four players; two boys and two girls. In a cold but dry afternoon skill and effort levels were high amongst all players. Grove Park won all five of their matches, winning 16 games and only losing two. St. Mary’s Chiswick edged out St. Mary’s Isleworth into runners-up spot by defeating them 3-1 in their match. Spring Grove, Cranford and Southville also took part.
