The Primary Cross Country took place under a clear sky at Feltham Community College yesterday. Despite only six schools competing, there were some very competitive races and a high level of talent, determination and effort displayed by those running.
Athletes competed over 2km on a flat, fast course consisting of 2 laps around the perimeter of the Feltham fields and were running for individual and team recognition.
The girls set off first and it was a close race until 30m from the line with Emma from St. Mary's Chiswick and Natalia from Strand on the Green neck and neck. Emma proved to have a bit more strength and outsprinted Natalia to the finish line to claim the first spot. The first two girls had really seperated from themselves from the rest of the girls. Millie from St. Mary's Isleworth had a very strong finish and took 3rd place.
St. Mary's Chiswick won the team award in the girls race with their top four athletes finishing between 1st and 8th.
There were a few more athletes in the second race of the afternoon - the Year 5/6 boys race. It was a much closer race but Kimen from Strand on the Green had a strong and consistent run and took the title. Jordan Edmund from Edward Pauling achieved 2nd place, sandwiched between another Strand on the Green athlete Patrick Quinn.
Strand on the Green won the boys team award with 21 points; the best team score of the competition. The second and third teams were seperated by only one point - 30 points and 31 points achieved by St. Mary's Chiswick and Edward Pauling respectively.
Sports leaders from Feltham Community College supported the event and were absoutely brilliant. They walked round the course with the athletes prior to the races starting and then marshalled the course while the races took place.
Individual and team results can be found below, along with photos taken throughout the competition yesterday.
