Isleworth and Syon Leadership

The Isleworth & Syon P.E Dept. offers a range of leadership courses for all students in Year 8 (Young Leaders) and Year 9/10 Sport Leaders Award and optional leader awards in Year 11 and Community Sport Leaders Award (Level 2) and Higher Sport Leader Award (Level 3) in Year 12 & 13.

As a consequence, a number of Isleworth & Syon Students are gaining valuable leadership experience in helping out in Primary P.E lessons, festivals and after School Clubs.

Twenty-Two Year 10 students are currently at Worple Primary on Friday afternoon and ten Year 11 students are at Isleworth Town Primary on Monday afternoon.

Six Year 11 Sport Leaders regularly help out at the Isleworth & Syon School Sport Partnership Hockey Club at Indian Gymkhana on Thursday afterschool.

In addition, Year 12 Community Sport Leaders assisted at the Year 3 & 4 invasion games’ festival held at Grasshoppers RFC on Monday 12th October.  The after school festival involved a number of sports including football, tag rugby, hockey & netball.

Also Seven Year 13 Higher Sport Leaders have been volunteering at Marlborough Primary School on a Thursday after school.  The students have been training the Year 6 Football team in preparation for their Cluster tournament. Some Year 12 & 13 students are also volunteering in Curriculum lessons and lunch-time and after school clubs.

By volunteering students have an opportunity to work towards Step into Sport School and Community Awards, Bronze (50 hours), Silver (100 hours) and Gold (200 hours).  The purpose of Step into Sport is to increase the quantity, quality and diversity for young people engaged in leadership and volunteering, with consequent benefits to schools, clubs, the community and young people themselves.

Moreover, a number of Isleworth & Syon students are doing coaching awards during half term.  These awards include the Badminton Junior Helper Award, CSLA Tag Rugby Award and F.A Level 1.  These awards will provide students with greater knowledge and confidence in helping out at extra curricular clubs at Isleworth & Syon and Primary Schools within the Partnership.

For any information on leadership & volunteering opportunities pleases email Mr Mawn on rmawn@isleworthsyon.hounslow.sch.uk
